X-Fire Keybinds
|
X-Fire is designed to let you choose your own keybinds to open it up in a game. The default keybind is [Scroll Lock] + X . When you press those two at the same time while in a full-screen game that supports X-Fire, you open up a box that is partly transparent where you can chat with other friends who are on X-Fire. (Check the compatibility of your game by clicking here.) Most games let you cross-chat. Cross chatting is where you can chat to others even if they are in a different game than you.
To change the keybind for X-Fire, you must not be in a full-screen program or game. Open X-Fire and log in. At the top of X-Fire, click on the "Tools" menu. Then click on "Options" from the list. Here you can change sounds, your nickname (the name others see), your privacy, the file download speed, and your X-Fire in-game keybind. If you want to change your keybind, click on the "Chat" tab at the top. You will see "Chat" and "X-Fire In-Game". Under Chat, you can either select or unselect whether you want to see the time each message was sent and recieved. Under X-Fire In-Game, you can select or unselect whether or not you wish to see chat messages in game and you can choose your keybind. Click on the button that says "Key Binding". Now press what buttons(s) you wish your X-Fire In-Game chat keybinding to be. Then click "Ok".
I find the Nickname feature to be very useful. When I first registered for X-Fire, I had a different username than I use now. It also would not let me use some characters I wanted, so by using a Nickname, I can choose what name others and myself see in X-Fire. NOTE: This does not change your username. You still log onto X-Fire with your original username, and others can only use your original username, not your nickname, to add you to their buddy list. You can make a nickname by clicking on the "Tools" menu at the top, then "Options", and then click on the "Display" tab at the top of the screen. By checking "Display Nicknames when Available", you can see others' nicknames. Right below that, you see "My Nickname". If you want to make a nickname, click in the box and type it in. You can use, to my knowledge, any character you wish. When you are done, click "Ok". Now others will see your nickname.
